Specialising in treating Trauma and its ongoing effects of PTSD, Substance and Alcohol abuse and dysfunctional lifestyles. Experienced and accredited in proven therapeutic treatments, here at BYAM we welcome individuals from both mainstream (Non-Indigenous) and diverse cultural backgrounds. Counselling is available for a range of problems (not all of them are traumatic), but Trauma, which comes in many forms is our main area of focus. Also experienced in working with Domestic Violence , you can be assured that your safety and security will be made a priority. A safe, neutral and comfortable space is available for individuals seeking support, inner well-being and healing. Culturally safe ways of working together are valued and acknowledged particularly for our First Nation Peoples. Experience working in the Northern Territory and for a local Qld Indigenous Health Organisation for over nine years enables effective, one on one, culturally appropriate and social and emotional well-being care to be offered
The focus is on You as an individual to help you heal, energize, and become aware of your inner strengths. This is achieved by providing a safe space, while listening to your story in a neutral and non judgmental way. Together appropriate strategies can be worked out so you achieve your goals to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Life is from the inside out. When you shift on the inside, life shifts on the outside.

Why Psychotherapy/Counselling as opposed to Psychology?
Psychology has a more clinical focus and restricted for Government rebates to therapeutic interventions which are "Evidence Based" . There is also a limited number of sessions available under government rebates through Medicare.
Psychotherapy allows for a greater scope and variety of treatments which are less clinical and more interactive with the Therapist.
Studies have shown that the therapeutic relationship between Client and Therapist is often at the heart of psychological healing.

One of the main benefits is that as a parent you can develop better emotional relationships with your children and gain insight into their behaviours and learn to respond appropriately. Often we don't see things until they are pointed out to us and this program can help with important insights.
